I initially visited One Love Café to meet with Rebecca, hoping to secure an opportunity to sell my homemade desserts from Nina’s Home Bakery within the café. As a new business operating with retail pricing rather than wholesale, that opportunity was not available at the time. However, Rebecca generously offered alternative avenues for growth, including participation in Chamber of Commerce meetings and the possibility of hosting pop-up events at the café.
What I did not anticipate was how transformative those opportunities would become for my business. I promptly joined the Chamber of Commerce and began attending meetings. At one of my first meetings, I had the privilege of meeting Saif, who provided an insightful overview of his entrepreneurial journey. He shared valuable knowledge on leveraging third-party platforms such as Uber Eats and DoorDash, as well as strategies involving promotions and effective business operations.
During that meeting, Saif also expressed a willingness to mentor others and extended the opportunity for me to use his café’s kitchen space for baking. I immediately recognized the value of learning from someone with such a strong reputation in both Redwood City and San Bruno, and I felt confident that my business would greatly benefit from his guidance.
In our initial sessions, we reviewed my website, and I provided samples of my products, which demonstrated my commitment and seriousness. Saif then advised me to transition my website to the Square platform, invest in professional photography, and join DoorDash—highlighting a gap in the local market for my type of offerings.
By implementing his recommendations, my business underwent a significant transformation. My website evolved into a highly professional platform, my presence on DoorDash led to a substantial increase in sales, and I have since been invited to expand into catering and serve as a meal partner. Additionally, I have recently been contacted by Uber Eats to join their platform in response to customer demand.
What began as a simple visit to a café inquiring about selling my desserts has evolved into a pivotal moment that significantly elevated my business—resulting in increased revenue, a stronger brand presence, and meaningful connections within the San Bruno community.
I am sincerely grateful to Rebecca and the San Bruno Chamber of Commerce for their guidance, support, and the opportunities they provided. Their encouragement has played an instrumental role in the growth and success of Nina’s Home Bakery.
